GetWellNetwork brings technology to the bedside.
Internet access, television shows, movies, video games, music, and interactive health care. Wait—what?! It’s true. GetWellNetwork brings all of these to Amarillo VA Health Care System’s bedside manner.
The world runs on touchscreens. Using GetWellNetwork, Amarillo VA Veteran patients will be able to use a variety of hospital services all with their fingertips. Things like medication information, environmental services, and nutrition can all be accessed using the interactive menu on the new equipment being installed now.
“The coolest thing about the new system is the fact that it is interactive,” says Amber Bell, RN and Nurse Manager for one of Amarillo VA’s inpatient units. “You can watch TV, browse the internet, review medication information, and gather information about the facility with the use of one remote.”
This may sound too good to be true—or, at least, too snazzy for a hospital. A hospital dedicated to taking care of Veterans, however, has to adopt technology that improves care.
“It’s all about the Veteran,” Chief of Community and Patient Relations Barbara Moore explains. “The GetWellNetwork is state-of-the-art technology we can use to engage Veterans in learning about their health. It can also improve patient and family satisfaction by streamlining care at the bedside.”
Coming soon, the Amarillo VA will bring new technology through GetWellNetwork to educate and empower Veterans about their health. How the network will pair with existing things like MyHealtheVet and electronic medical records shows that the Amarillo VA is using technology to improve Veterans’ experiences in their health care.
